Town Meeting preview: Applying surplus to reduce property taxes is before Barnard voters

Article of note: One article asks voters whether to apply a $200,000 surplus from the year ending June 30, 2022 to reduce property taxes for the fiscal year 2024.

Contested races: Voting for officers is from the floor.

Budgets and spending articles: Voters will be asked to approve a $1.77 million highway budget, of which $1.08 million is slated to come from taxes. They also will be asked to approve a $833,000 general fund budget, of which $549,000 is slated to come from taxes. At last year’s Town Meeting, Barnard voters approved a highway budget of $1.24 million, of which $862,000 was to be raised by taxes, and a general fund budget of $842,000, of which $562,000 was to be raised by taxes, according to minutes from the meeting.

When, where and how to vote: Barnard is scheduled to hold its Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 7 at 10 a.m. at Barnard Town Hall, 115 North Road.
