CANAAN — A longtime music educator has become the new principal of Canaan Elementary School.

Megan Prince, who began her new role July 1, has worked as a music teacher at both Canaan Elementary School and Enfield Village School since 1999, according to a news release from the Mascoma Valley Regional School District.

Prince also has served as president of the Parent-Teacher Association and Mascoma Valley Regional Education Association, and as a member of the Negotiations and Teacher Evaluation committees. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in music education from Keene State College, she also has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Plymouth State University.

"I am dedicated to maintaining a nurturing, inclusive environment and ensuring everybody has the opportunity to learn in an environment conducive to their needs,” she said in the release.

Prince replaces interim Principal April Guinness, who has been in the role since Leah Wheelan departed to lead Lebanon’s Hanover Street School. In April, the district had announced that it had hired Jody Viereck, a New Jersey resident who was employed as an adjunct professor at Rowan University. But about a month later, she backed out of a one-year contract, leaving the school district to form a new hiring committee to hire a principal before the start of the 2024-25 school year this month.
