DORCHESTER — A 26-year old Canaan woman was killed in an early Wednesday morning auto crash on Route 118 in Dorchester, New Hampshire State Police reported on Wednesday.

Alexandra VanZandt, of Canaan, was pronounced deceased at the scene after New Hampshire troopers and Canaan Fire Rescue responded to a 4:28 a.m. call to the area of Paul Smith Road on Route 118 in Dorchester, where they found a 2018 Toyota Highlander in the ditch and turned on the driver’s side, police said.

VanZandt’s vehicle “was traveling southbound and drifted off the west side of Route 118 when it “struck an earth embankment and became airborne” before landing sideways in the ditch, according to police.

First responders administered medical aid but VanZandt was pronounced dead, police said.

An investigation is ongoing “but speed does appear to be a factor in this collision,” police said, requesting that anyone with information to contact Trooper Jawara Conde at (603) 223-6183 or Jawara.G.Conde@dos.nh.gov.
