CLAREMONT — Two Upper Valley elementary schools have been awarded grants from the Children’s Literacy Foundation, known as CLiF.
Maple Avenue School in Claremont and Union Street School in Springfield, Vt., are part of a group of 10 schools in the Twin States to each receive $25,000 CLiF Year of the Book literacy grants for the 2023-2024 school year from the Waterbury Center, Vt.-based nonprofit organization. As part of the program, each of the schools’ children will be given 10 new books, authors will visit the schools and there will be family events, among other benefits.
“The excitement that comes from new ideas, new books, and new connections makes this an invigorating grant for schools,” CLiF Program Manager Cassie Willner said in a news release. “Our ultimate goal here at CLiF and through this grant is to inspire kids to love reading and writing.”
