CLAREMONT — Stevens High School reopened with normal hours on Monday after the school district assessed that there was no evidence to show a threat of violence that forced officials to close the school on Friday was credible.

“After further investigation we have found no evidence to indicate that this threat is credible,” Chris Pratt, superintendent of SAU 6, posted on the school district’s website Sunday.

Pratt said the investigation continues but officials determined the threat came from a Stevens High student and “we are committed to identifying the individual responsible.”

The school district ordered Stevens High School to be closed on Friday, Nov. 1, after it received a message sent on Thursday, Oct. 31, from “within Stevens High School” threatening an “act of violence” the next day at the high school.

Also last week, the White River Valley Supervisory Union requested a police presence at schools in Royalton and Bethel after social media posts appeared alerting of potential gun violence at the Royalton campus on Friday.

An investigation into the threats and interviews and visits by police with "the residents of those involved in these alarming posts” determined that there had not been a credible threat to school safety, WRVSU officials said.
