Dump truck driver arrested for suspected DUI following I-91 crash

WEATHERSFIELD — A 58-year-old Walpole, N.H., man was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving following a crash on Interstate 91 Thursday morning. 

Just after 7 a.m. Thursday, the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, State Police and Weathersfield Fire Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on I-91 Northbound just past Exit 8 in Weathersfield.

The suspected drunk driver was operating a dump truck towing an excavator, according to a news release from the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles. The vehicle rolled off the road.

The two other vehicles involved were a truck and an SUV. There were no serious injuries. 

As a result of the accident, a portion of I-91 in Ascutney and Weathersfield was completely closed for about six hours Thursday. Officials opened the left lane of traffic at about 1:30 p.m., before completely clearing the accident at about 3:30 p.m.
