Town Meeting preview: Hartland Fire Department requests higher appropriation

Article of note: Voters will be asked for a $92,000 appropriation for the volunteer fire department. That’s up from $80,000 last year.
Contested races: There are no contested Selectboard or School Board races this year. Trace Tancreti is running unopposed for a three-year Selectboard seat and Phil Hobbie is up for a two-year seat. On the school side, Nicole (Nicki) Buck is running unopposed for a three-year seat, while no one filed to run for a two-year seat.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed town general fund and highway budgets total $3.68 million, with $2.97 million to come from taxes. That’s up from a $3.5 million combined general fund and highway budget voters approved last year. The proposed school operating budget is $11.54 million. That’s up from last year’s proposed school budget of $9.99 million.
When, where and how to vote: The annual school meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. at Damon Hall at One Quechee Road. Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 5 at 9 a.m. at Damon Hall. Voting by Australian ballot will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 5 at Damon Hall.
