Ski Jumping

Hanover wins seven-team meet Bears hosted at Oak Hill

Key players: Hanover — Charlie Forbush was the high scorer, followed closely by Jai Gregory and Hayden Clapp.

Highlights: Forbush and Gregory really separated themselves from the rest of the boys field. Sunapee’s Celia Osborne and Lebanon’s Helena Mielcarz were the one and two finishing girls, respectively.

Girls Basketball

Oxbow 73, Montpelier 23

Key players: Oxbow — Makenna Houston, Maggi Ellsworth, Braylee Phelps, Brooke Osgood, and Kane Fuller-Penatzer Montpelier — Regan Walke

Highlights: Oxbow took an early lead and never looked back. Houston led all scorers with 16, followed by Ellsworth and Phelps who netted 15 apiece. Osgood and Fuller-Penatzer each had eight to round out the balanced scoring attack.

Key players: Hanover — Beckett Sobel, Roy Lucas Hollis-Brookline — Alton Williams, James Arthur

Highlights: Sobel had a game-high 19 points and Roy Lucas added 15 for the visiting Bears against a tough Hollis-Brookline squad. The Cavaliers were led by Alton Williams and James Arthur with 15 points a piece.

Records: Hanover 5-2; Hollis-Brookline 5-3

Woodstock 69, Stowe 44

Key players: Woodstock — Elvis Lavallee (28 points); Aksel Oates (12 points); Caleb Sammel (11 points) Stowe — Ben Smith (11 points); Grey Heidelberger (9 points)

Highlights: Woodstock was down by six after the first quarter, but rebounded with a 25 point second quarter to put them in front through regulation.

Key players: Windsor — Isaac Becker (20 points, including four 3’s); Tanner Crane (10 points, including 8 in 2nd half) Stevens — Jacob Davis (7 points); Owen Wilkinson (5 points)

Highlights: Down 19-18 at the half, Windsor exploded for an 18-5 3rd quarter to put it away in the fourth. Crane hit a buzzer beater at the end of the 3rd to take a 15 point lead into the final frame.

Coach’s quote: “I’m proud of our guys, we have had more than a few close losses this year so I’m sure there is some relief to finally put a full 32 minutes together. The ball moved better in the 2nd half against their zone and our defense forced some transition offense.” — Windsor’s Larry Dougher

Bishop Brady 45, Lebanon 42

Key players: Bishop Brady — Ryan Casey (18 points) Lebanon — Miles Saunders (12 points)

Coach’s quote: “Their zone defense caused issues for us and shots were not falling early. We battled back into the game but Bishop Brady deserves a lot of credit, they played incredibly hard for the full game and wouldn’t let us take the lead in the fourth. ” — Lebanon’s Blendon Salls

Boys Hockey

Hanover 4, Nashua North-Souhegan 2

Key players: Hanover — Bryce Morancy (19 saves); Gavin Nartowicz and Ryder Wilson (1 goal each); Ronan Pryydzielski (1-2-3); Henry Cotter (1-2-3)

Highlights: Two power play goals (Nartowicz and Przydzielski) in the game’s first minutes propelled the Bears to victory.

Coach’s quote: “Boys played a solid team game in 3rd period against a gritty, hard-nosed Nashua team. The game marked our 8th straight road game. It will be nice to be back at Campion on Monday.” — Hanover’s Dick Dodds

Girls Hockey

Missisquoi 3, Hartford 2 (OT)

Highlights: Hartford had a 2-0 lead going into the 3rd period. Missisquoi tied the game and then won in OT.

Records: Missisquoi 6-4; Hartford 6-2-1

Swimming

Hanover wins meet at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON — Mascoma’s Andrew Prince won the boys 50-yard freestyle in 26.27 seconds and 100-yard freestyle in 58:10 seconds at a meet hosted by Stevens at Colby-Sawyer College Friday at the Hogan Center.

Hanover boys and girls came out on top against several schools which also included Lebanon.

Hanover’s Elizabeth Staats won the girls 200 freestyle (2:04) and the Bears’ Gabriel Clerkin won the same event for the boys also in 2:04. Lebanon’s Hailey Belardo captured the girls 100-yard breaststroke (1:16) and was second in the 200-yard individual medley, which was won by Hanover’s Iris Freeman (2:23). Stevens Sara Gaspard won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03) with Staats second and Gaspard was second in the 100-yard breaststroke

Hanover’s Staats, Sofia Ye, Freeman and Ellia Molina won the 200-yard medley relay in 2:04 and Freeman, Adelaide Cesanek, Sonya Korkina and Ruby Lintner won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:58). Hanover’s Claire Uiterwyk won the girls 50 free (27.60).

Hanover, Lebanon and Stevens will meet again at the CCBA in Lebanon on Jan. 28.
