Local Roundup: Windsor girls soccer defeats White River Valley

Hanover’s Faris sets course record at CVC championships
SWANZEY, N.H. — Hanover High junior Megan Faris set a course record and the Hanover girls and boys teams easily won the Connecticut Valley Conference Cross Country Championship on Friday.
Faris won the girls 5K at the Cheshire Fairgrounds in 18:02, followed by her teammate, junior Lea Perreard (18:14).
Hanover’s Andrew Valentino placed second (15:27) in the boys race behind Keene’s Sullivan Sturtz (14:46). Both the girls and boys teams had seven of the top 10 runners in each race and 12 of the top 20 runners.
Also scoring for Hanover were Alice Bell (fourth, 18:41), Aria Deeb (seventh, 19:10) and Millie Larrick (eighth, 19:18).
Thetford’s Ava Hayden finished sixth (19:08). Lebanon’s Annelies Hanna was 10th (19:34), with teammates Olivia Hanna 17th and Sara Smith 27th in the field of 54 runners.
Brady Sloop of Thetford was fifth in a time of 15:55 for Thetford. For Lebanon, Ian Kiefer was 13th (16:55) and August Ramos-Glew finished 27th. For the Hanover boys, Ben Groves was third (15:30) followed by Ryan Faris (fourth, 15:41), Nandeesh Jain (sixth, 15:58).

Rounding out the top 10 were three Hanover runners, Ben Hourdequin (eighth, 16:28), Alexander Collins (ninth, 16:31) and Donovan Van Citters (10th, 16:31).
Hanover coach Eric Picconi said his runners took advantage of a flat, fast course.
“So many of them walk away proudly today with some career fast times,” Picconi said. “They earned them, for sure.”
Other results includes Thetford’s Wendell Durham (27th) and Newport’s Michael Bohn (35th).
Boys team scores: Hanover 22, Keene 49, Lebanon 88, Thetford 92, Newport 144.
Girls team scores: Hanover 19, Keene 55, Lebanon 75, Thetford 94.
Windsor 6, White River Valley 0
Key players: White River Valley — Anna Stone, Norah Harwood, Emma Garcia, Macy Allen, Arhaea Lowe, Payton Woods.
Highlights: Windsor got a breakaway in the second minute of the game, but Wildcat goalkeeper Imari Taylor answered with her first of nine saves. The Wildcats held on for a bit longer but were unable to withstand the Yellowjacket offense.
Records: Windsor 10-0-1; White River Valley 2-9-1
Mascoma 2, Kearsarge 1
Key players: Mascoma — Tori Petty, Ann Buffington, Jillian Ballou, Anna Emerson.
Highlights: After Kearsarge went up 1-0 in the first quarter, freshman Petty was able to make a run up the open sideline and dump a goal in after beating the last defender with her speed. Kearsarge had an opportunity to tie the game when it was awarded a penalty stroke, but goalie Sam Harkins made the stop. Petty gave the Royals the winning goal assisted by Makenna Houston.

Hanover 3, Fall Mountain 0
Key players: Hanover — Ellie Molina, Claire Starosta, Mary Matter.
Highlights: Molina had eight kills and five aces. Starosta had seven kills and an amazing serve receive. Matter had three blocks.
Coach’s quote: “Our serve receive was on tonight, which allowed us to run our offense efficiently. We are still working on making the most strategic decisions, but Fall Mountain played with a lot of passion and a lot of scrap. Highlights: Game finished tied at end of regulation in a battle of two undefeated NHIAA Division III juggernauts.

Key players: Oxbow — Andrew Barrett, Jayden Huntoon, Ethan Emerson, John Bohan.
Highlights: Barrett had two goals and three assists, Huntoon scored two goals and had an assist and Emerson Bohan each scored a goal. Oden Schalger had two saves.
