Key players: Hartford — Madi Barwood (4 goals); Audrey Rupp (4 goals, 1 assist); Nella Bowen (3 goals, 1 assist); Paisley Danaher and Hailey Vanesse (1 goal each)

Highlights: Outstanding goalie play by Zoe Zanleoni with six saves to lead the Hurricanes to a win over the archrival Wasps, who eliminated them from the VPA Division II semifinals the past two years. Hartford leads D-II, while Woodstock sits in third place.

Key players: Lebanon — No. 1 singles: Lebanon’s Kyle Hines, 8-4, over Plymouth’s Grady Marunowski. No. 2 singles: Lebanon’s Augie Church-Cole, 8-3, over Plymouth’s Connor Johnson. No. 3 singles: Lebanon’s Lavi Halwawala, 8-3, over Plymouth’s Grant Van Sickle. No. 1 doubles: Lebanon’s Hines/Lucas Graham, 8-2, over Plymouth’s Marunowski/JD Doherty. No. 2 doubles: Lebanon’s Church-Cole/Halwawala, 8-1, over Plymouth’s Johnson/Van Sickle.

Highlights: The Raiders and Bobcats preemptively agreed to play indoors due to the weather issues, with Lebanon pulled out the narrow win to start the final week of the regular season. Church-Cole and Halwawala both had quite the afternoon, playing at a new level in both singles and doubles. First doubles clinched the Lebanon victory against a great team with good kids.

Highlights: Seniors Hines (8-0), Mladek (8-4) and Ellingson (8-1) celebrated Senior Day with singles wins, and each then teamed with a doubles partner to help sweep the day.

Coach’s quote: “Junior Mari Utell (8-0), freshman Samyra Graber (8-1) and junior Payton Breedlove (8-1) joined the seniors with strong singles performances in cold, blustery conditions as we began another five-match week to close out the regular season.” — Lebanon’s Rob Johnstone

Key players: Thetford — Sam Parkman (three shutout innings on the mound); Ollie Sarazin and Andrew Spooner (two hits each); JD Farrell and Xander Oshoniyi (three runs each)

Highlights: Thetford recovered from an early 4-1 deficit and pulled away late with an eight-run sixth inning for its ninth win of the season.

Coach’s quote: “The boys showed some toughness and executed pretty well in poor weather conditions today. We overcame a bad second inning and got better as the game went on. Our hitters showed good patience at the plate.” — Thetford’s Kris Keelty

Mascoma 8, Newfound 7

Key players: Mascoma — Brody Goulette (6⅓ innings pitched, 5 hits, 3 earned runs, 10 strikeouts, 2 walks); Dylan Cannon (2 hits, 1 run, 1 home run, 3 RBIs) Newfound — Landon Sargent (2 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs); Nate Arnold (2 hits, 1 RBI, 1 walk)

Highlights: Strong pitching from Goulette and a three-run home run from Cannon helped the Royals overcome an afternoon of timely hitting from the Bears.

Coach’s quote: “Both teams never quit despite a continuous light rain on a muddy field. Game was decided in the bottom of the seventh with Newfound leaving the bases loaded.” — Mascoma’s Salvatore Percia

Track and field

Mascoma finishes strong
at Last Chance Meet

Barnaby Diehn and Georgia Kondi of Mascoma won two events each at the Last Chance Meet at Sanborn High School on Monday.

Diehn won the boys discus and shot put and Kondi won the same events for the girls. Mascoma’s Gunner Currier took first in the boys 1,600. Other top-three finishes for the Royals were Sam Joyce (second, boys 200 meters); Braelyn Stone (third, girls triple jump); and the quartet of Kayden Wilson, Alex Deserrano, Currier and Joyce (second, boys 4x400). Nineteen schools competed, but team scores were not compiled.
