LEBANON — Lebanon High soccer midfielder Sydney DeShane missed Monday’s postgame handshake line with Merrimack Valley because she needed to use her asthma inhaler at the far end of the Raiders’ bench.

The Pride’s players found her anyway, almost all of them walking over to congratulate DeShane with hugs and high-fives after their 1-0 girls soccer victory. DeShane, a senior co-captain, fully spent herself, as Lebanon coach Breck Taber said is the norm.

“She runs to complete exhaustion,” Taber said. “If everybody played with her heart, determination and sheer grit, the sky would be the limit for this team. She’s a once-in-a-blue-moon player.”

Merrimack Valley, NHIAA Division II’s second-ranked team behind undefeated Hollis-Brookline, scored during the sixth minute. Isabelle Navoy broke in alone on Lebanon goalkeeper Maezie Angles, and the first-year starter elected to stay on her line, leaving the right side open for a Navoy shot.

The Raiders found it hard sledding against an opponent both athletic and disciplined. The Pride’s formation gave them five midfielders against Lebanon’s four. It was a factor in gumming up the hosts’ offense and forced them mostly outside.

“I think we played well, and we had two really good first-half chances,” Taber said. “There have been too many games where the ball is bouncing around the box, and we need to capitalize.

“Our intensity level was better for this game, but we need to practice with that same intensity.”

Lebanon (5-5-1) hosts Keene (0-9-0) on Saturday. The teams’ Sept. 19 meeting resulted in a 4-0 victory for the Raiders.

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Olivia MacLeay scored twice and Audrey Rupp had a goal and three assists for the Yellowjackets (7-1-1), who broke a scoreless halftime tie. They host Randolph (2-5-1) on Thursday.

Woodstock 4, Hartford 0

WOODSTOCK — Olivia Grasso scored twice and Skye Cully and Fiona Piconi also tallied for the Wasps, who improved to 5-2-0 while dropping the Hurricanes to 0-8-0.

Hartford coach Jeff Acker lauded defenders Nicola Husman and Kathryn Summarsell and Serenitee Martel in goal. The visitors played with one substitute because of injury and illness.

Leah Kuhnert had two assists for Woodstock, which visits Stratton Mountain (2-2-0) on Thursday. Hartford hosts Fair Haven (7-1-0) on Tuesday.

Green Mountain 3Rivendell 2 (OT)

ORFORD — Sophia Cherubini’s third goal of the game was a direct kick from just outside the penalty area, lifting Green Mountain to 3-5-1 and dropping the Raptors to 3-3-0.

Rivendell held a 20-10 shot advantage and received four saves from Wayah Cook. Harper Traendly and Shaylee Carter also scored for the Raptors, who visit White River Valley (5-2-0) on Thursday.

Stevens 2, Fall Mountain 0

CLAREMONT — Peyton Ferland and Maddy Chambers scored for the Cardinals, who are 9-2-1 and fourth in the NHIAA Division III standings. The Wildcats are 5-3-2.

Faith Norton had an assists for the hosts, who earned their seventh shutout and visit Campbell (7-2) on Oct. 10.

BOYS SOCCERBrattleboro 4, Woodstock 2

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Woodstock trailed, 3-0, early in the second half and fell to 3-5-0 while the Bears climbed to 6-1-1.

Luke Hecker scored his first varsity goal for the Wasps, then added his second off a Bode Wood assist. Woodstock visits Rutland (1-6-3) on Wednesday.

Oxbow 4, Twinfield-Cabot 3

BRADFORD, Vt. — Jayden Huntoon bent a corner kick into the net midway through the second half, lifting the Olympians to their second victory in their last three games. Oxbow is 3-6-0, and the Trojans are 3-5-0.

Dakota Goodrich made 13 saves for Oxbow, which led, 2-1, at halftime on goals by Andrew Barrett and Matthew Corti. Reece Ilsley, who also contributed two assists, gave the hosts a 3-2 lead six minutes into the second half.

“Reece was very tough to guard as a striker today,” said Olympians coach Chuck Simmons. “His unselfish play was a big contribution to today’s win.”

Oxbow hosts Blue Mountain (0-6-0) on Wednesday.

Rivendell 3, Springfield 2

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Wyatt Parker scored the winning goal off a Jacoby Patterson assist during a rare Sunday game set up by a weather cancellation two days prior.

Patterson and Wright Swaine also scored for the visitors, and Will Knowles and Luke Avery earned assists.

Rivendell (4-3-1) visits Green Mountain (1-4-1) on Tuesday.

FIELD HOCKEYBurr & Burton 2, Windsor 0

WINDSOR — Sydney Perry stopped eight shots, but the Yellowjackets dropped to 3-5-0 while the Bulldogs improved to 5-1-1.

Windsor visits Fair Haven (4-3-1) on Thursday.

Hartford 9, St. Johnsbury 0

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Madison Barwood scored four times, Madison Wiley had a goal and three assists and Kamryn Brower scored twice and added three assists in the Hurricanes’ latest victory.

Hartford (7-1-0) also received a goal and two assists from Charlotte Jasmin and a goal from Haley Vanesse.

The Hurricanes face Woodstock (7-1-0) on Wednesday.

WOODSTOCK — Hannah Gubbins scored once during the first quarter and twice during the second stanza. Claudia Shoemaker assisted the last tally.

Brattleboro (3-5-0) received 19 saves from Erika Fletcher. Woodstock (7-1-0) visits Hartford (7-1-0) on Wednesday.

DERRY, N.H. — Nick Reiss led the Bears (18-9) by shooting a 39 during their regular-season finale at Hoodkroft Country Club.

He was followed by Andrew Cahoon (40), Jake Toulmin (40), Adam Goodney (42) and Ben Ames (42).

Hanover plays in the NHIAA Division I state tournament on Tuesday at Canterbury Woods Country Club.

Derryfield 74, Kearsarge 67, Stevens 62, Pelham 61

MANCHESTER — Stevens’ Aubree Herzog chipped in on the ninth hole to finish her round with a score of 38 and her first-ever medalist honor for the Cardinals at Derryfield Country Club. Herzog finished ahead of four of NHIAA Division III’s nine best players, said coach Ryan Seaver.

Stevens (12-7) clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2020, when it finished second to Bow. The Cardinals return to Derryfield CC on Wednesday, when they face Derryfield, Sanborn and Plymouth.

D-III states are Oct. 12 at Sagamore Hampton Golf Course.
