Local Roundup: Woodstock field hockey edges D-II leader Hartford in overtime

WOODSTOCK — In a rematch of last season’s VPA Division II title game on Wednesday, Woodstock High’s Hannah Gubbins scored off Grace Laperle’s crossing pass to lift the Wasps to a 2-1 triumph over Hartford — the ongoing leaders in the D-II standings — in overtime at Yvonne Frates Field.
Hartford led, 1-0, on Madison Barwood’s third-quarter goal before Gubbins cashed in a penalty-corner insert from Laperle.
Woodstock’s Paige Stone made 14 saves, including a crucial one during overtime. Paige Vielleux made eight stops for Hartford.
Hartford (7-2-0) plays Rutland on Friday. Woodstock (8-1-0) plays Springfield on Saturday.
CLAREMONT — The Cardinals improved to 8-2-0 and rose to third in the NHIAA Division III standings. Mascoma is 8-4-0.
Stevens hosts Mascenic (3-6-1) on Friday. The Royals visit White Mountains (4-5-0) on Tuesday.
HANOVER — Sophia Mancini and Joia Collins each scored twice and Eva Bell, Grace Healey tallied once each as the Bears improved 6-5-2.
