Boys Alpine Skiing

Hanover wins
fifth state championship

Key players: Hanover — Peak Temple (1st in GS, 3rd in slalom); Hayden Clapp (4th GS, 1st slalom); Ben Ames (3rd GS, 6th slalom); Hopper Kelley (4th slalom); Charlie Forbush (11th slalom, 13th GS); Charlie Gartner (12th in both GS and slalom); Temple, Clapp, Ames and Kelley, by virtue of their top ten finishes, qualified for the Meet of Champions.

Highlights: Hanover defended its Alpine title in dominant fashion to win its fifth NHIAA Division II championship in a row, winning at Crotched Mountain in Bennington. After a successful morning in GS, the boys had a 15-point lead over Kennett. A near-perfect afternoon of slalom skiing sealed the deal, earning not only the state champion title but also having the fastest skier in both individual events.

Highlights: After six years, Hanover brought home the NHIAA Division II state championship with a victorious effort at Cranmore Mountain. After the giant slalom portion of the day, the Bears were two points behind Kingswood. All the slalom training paid off and Hanover delivered two solid runs to claim the slalom portion of the day, with Kennett trailing only three points behind. The great GS skiing and superb slalom performance earned the girls 748 points overall and the title. It was a very close competition and an exciting day.

Highlights: Hanover had a strong start with five goals from five different players in the first period. The Bears seemed to let up in the second as they continued to dominate but had trouble finishing. Two goals from Rockmore in the third closed out the scoring.

Hartford 2, Spaulding 2 (OT)

Highlights: Hartford opened the scoring 28 seconds into the game, and then scored with an extra attacker with 31 seconds left in the third period to force overtime. Nella Bowen stopped 24 shots, and Hartford got goals from Emma Bazin and Grace Hayes.

Highlights: An explosive third period almost brought the Bears back from 3-0 deficit against Division I power Bishop Guertin.
