Local roundup: Hanover girls basketball locks up top-four playoff seed

HANOVER — The Hanover High girls basketball team had scoring from the entire roster to defeat John Stark, 53-27, on Friday night and finish the regular season at 14-4.
Sydney McLaughlin led Hanover with 18 points and Nina Marshall had eight against the Generals (9-9).
“Great home win to secure the fourth seed (in the NHIAA Division II playoffs),” Hanover coach Dan O’Rourke said.
On Senior Night, the team recognized the accomplishments of Stella Galanes, Nina Sablan and Amina Ajwang.
The Bears will learn their first-round D-II tournament assignment on Monday.
WEARE, N.H. — Ryan McLaughlin had 27 points and Jaysen Oriol added 13 for the win in the Bears’ final regular-season game.
Hanover’s six-point lead after one quarter proved to be important. The Bears (5-13) increased that to eight after three quarters and it was enough to hold off the Generals, who had a three-point edge in the fourth.

Hanover won five of its final seven games after opening the year on an 11-game losing streak. That leaves the Bears in a four-way tie for the final spot in the 14-team NHIAA Division II tournament, which will be determined via tiebreaker when the tourney field is announced on Monday.
SOUTH ROYALTON – The Wildcats led by 10 at halftime, then broke this one wide open in the second half, outscoring the Raiders 39-13 after the break.
Tattin Griffin led WRV with 22 points and Zander Clark added 10. In all, nine Wildcats scored against the Raiders (4-16).
WRV finishes the regular season at 12-8.
WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The Raptors closed out the regular season against the Terriers with their ninth straight win in a close contest that entered the fourth quarter tied.
Rivendell’s Jacoby Patterson had 18 points and Harry Molesworth grabbed 19 rebounds to go with nine points and five blocks.
Bellows Falls (14-5) was up by three at halftime, but Rivendell (16-4) pulled away in the fourth with solid defense and timely scoring.
The Raptors will likely get the second seed in next week’s VPA Division IV tournament.
