Local roundup: Rivendell baseball wins slugfest over West Rutland
ORFORD — Harry Molesworth was 4-for-4 and drove in three runs as the Rivendell Academy baseball team won a slugfest over West Rutland on Thursday, 16-10.
Molesworth doubled, tripled and also scored four runs and stole three bases. Luke Avery was 3-for-5 with four runs scored and four stolen bases, Braydan Larson was also 3-for-5 and Robert McNelly was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Raptors (1-1) scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the third, then exploded for five in the fourth and added three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Josh Gould took over on the mound with two on and nobody out in the second and pitched the rest of the game, with all six runs he allowed being unearned. In five innings, Gould gave up three hits and walked four while striking out eight. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.
“Josh did an outstanding job pitching,” Raptors coach Eric Reichert said. “We needed a long run from him, and he gave us a little over 100 pitches. The defense let him down a few times, accounting for the unearned runs.”
Rivendell hosts Arlington on Saturday.
WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The Wildcats dropped their opening game of the season to the Terriers and will play their home opener against West Rutland on Saturday.
