Town Meeting preview: Lyme

Articles of note: One article on the town warrant asks whether voters support the Lyme Community Power Electric Aggregation Plan. Another would amend the zoning ordinance to redefine solar energy systems. One article would discontinue a Class VI section of road between Shoestrap Road and Maple Lane. Another would reclassify that section of Shoestrap Road as a Class A trail. If the first option passes, the second will be null.
Contested races: There are no contested races for Selectboard or School Board.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed school budget is $8.8 million, which is up from $8.4 million last year. A separate article, which is recommended by the School Board, but opposed by the Budget Committee, asks whether voters support a bond for a $2.6 million asbestos and lead paint abatement project at the school. Another article asks whether voters approve the cost of a new three-year collective bargaining agreement with the teachers association, which includes a cost of $223,000 in the first year. The proposed town budget is $2.82 million, which is up slightly from $2.76 million last year.
When, where and how to vote: The annual school meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m. in the Lyme School gym. Ballot voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12 in the Lyme community room/gym at the Lyme School. Town Meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the school that day.
