One man dies in Route 14 crash

ROYALTON — A man died following a two-car crash on Route 14 in Royalton on Friday morning, according to a police news release.

Upon responding to a report of a crash at 4603 VT RT 14 at about 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Royalton Police officer Oscar Gardner found two cars with extensive frontend damage: A 2018 Toyota Rav4 and a 2018 Chevy Cruz. 

Gardner began life-saving measures including CPR in an effort to revive the operator of the Chevy Cruz, David Allen Durkee, Jr. Both operators were transported to Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. There, Durkee “succumbed to his injuries,” according to the release from Royalton police. The name of the second driver has not been made public.

In addition to Gardner, the South Royalton Fire Department, White River Valley Ambulance and Vermont State Police also responded.
