Incumbents win Sullivan County races

NEWPORT — In contested races for Sullivan County offices, three incumbent Republicans comfortably won re-election, including District 1 County Commissioner Joe Osgood of Claremont.

Osgood defeated Claremont Democrat Benjamin Nelson, 12,823 to 10,675.

Osgood was the winner in 11 towns, while Nelson won in Claremont, Cornish, Grantham and Plainfield.

For county treasurer, Mike Sanderson, of Newport, defeated former Claremont mayor Charlene Lovett, a Democrat, 12,247 to 11,182.

For the office of Register of Probate, Rodd Ward, of Newport, won another two-term over former state Rep. Lee Oxenham, of Plainfield, 12,489 to 10,561.

In uncontested races, Christine Hilliard, a Democrat, was elected Sullivan County Attorney; Jayson Almstrom was elected county sheriff; and incumbent Republican George Herbert was elected county commissioner from District 3.
