BETHEL — Police are investigating the death of a Boston man who died at an art festival in Bethel earlier this month.

Vermont State Police said in a news release on Tuesday they learned at 11:26 p.m. on July 7 that the Bethel Fire Department and White River Valley Ambulance had responded to a 911 call about a 35-year-old man who was unresponsive.

The man, whose identity is being withheld pending the investigation, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A determination on the cause and manner of death is pending toxicology testing, which can take several weeks or months to complete. Preliminary investigation indicates the death is not suspicious, police said.

The Firefly Arts Festival posted on its website on July 11 that three attendees at the festival experienced “medical emergencies” that required attention. One of the individuals was “escorted” by on-site personnel to the First Aid tent for “care and observation.”

At the medical station the escorted individual became “unresponsive” so medical staff and volunteers performed CPR until local emergency responders arrived, according to the organization, who nonetheless were unable to revive them.

The two other festival attendees in distress were transported to nearby hospitals for care. They both were later discharged and “expected to make a full recovery,” the Firefly organization said.
