NH Cold Case Unit searches Newport property

NEWPORT — Members of the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit began executing court-authorized search warrants in Newport on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Attorney General’s Office.

The search — in conjunction with New Hampshire Department of Justice investigators, the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit, and the Claremont and Newport police departments — “poses no danger to the public and consists of a search for physical evidence,” according to the release.

Investigations were scheduled to be ongoing throughout the day on Tuesday. Investigators and a state police Major Crime Unit truck could be seen outside a brick residence on Ayers Road. 

“To preserve the integrity of these investigations, no additional information will be released at this time,” the release said.

The release from Attorney General John M. Formella and State Police Colonel Mark B. Hall indicated that the investigation should be viewed as demonstrating “the State’s dedication to investigating unresolved cases.”

But it cautioned against “drawing any conclusions from these efforts” and asked that members of the public respect the privacy of area residents and stay off private properties.
