SUNAPEE — Five-term incumbent Linda Tanner, D-Sunapee, was narrowly defeated in Tuesday’s election by Republican George Grant, 1,683-1,669 for the Sullivan County House seat representing Sunapee and Springfield.

Grant, who lost to Tanner two years ago, lost in Sunapee by 10 votes, 1,222-1212, but defeated Tanner in Springfield, 471-447.

A self-employed building contractor, Grant, 71, told the Valley News if elected he would oppose new taxes and give parents a strong voice in the education of their children.
