Students name plow after long-time Strafford resident

SOUTH STRAFFORD — Newton School students have named a plow after a long-time Strafford resident and beloved elementary school volunteer.

The school named a bright orange plow “Roz” after Rosalind “Roz” Finn as part of the Vermont Department of Transportation’s Name a Plow Program, according to a news release from the Newton School. School officials held a ceremony earlier this month and students made cards for Finn, who recently moved from Strafford to be closer to her family.

“Roz Finn is no stranger to the community in or outside of the classroom,” according to the release. Finn volunteered for decades at the school in the library and with students in all grades.

She spent time with kindergarteners “reading to children and then as they became readers, listening to them as they read to her,” according to the release. “She shared in their joy and helped them practice their newfound skills.”

The Newton School was one of 118 schools that participated in the state’s Name a Plow Program, according to the DOT. Among the other Upper Valley schools that contributed names are Marion Cross School (Chubby Muffin); Newbury Elementary School (Snowbuster); Open Fields School (Enchilllada); Randolph Elementary School (Wizard’s Blizzard); The Wilder School (Frosten Powers); Thetford Elementary School (Snoah Gahan); Weathersfield School (Big Johnny); Westshire Elementary (Snow Buster); White River Elementary - Bethel (The Snow Day Eliminator); White River Elementary - Royalton (The Orange Wildcat); Windsor School (Ice-E Rudolph); and Woodstock Elementary School (Snow Lemur).
