Olly Russell has been named November’s student of the month at Lebanon High School. Two teachers nominated Russell for the honor, according to a news release from the Lebanon School District.

“I have never taught a student that is so high achieving, yet humble,” science teacher Matt Custer said in the release.

Russell is a member of the swim team, a band section leader, the drama club’s stage manager and co-president of the Young Progressive Activists. She is also a member of the Science Olympiad, Numeraiders, the National Honor Society and is secretary of the Science Honor Society.

“She participates meaningfully in discussions, works well with everyone, and consciously tries to help others,” paraeducator Molly Vallelian said in the release. “She balances all of her activities and social responsibility.”

Michael Sanchez, of Lebanon, earned a master’s degree in cloud computing systems from University of Maryland Global Campus in Adelphi, Maryland, during the summer 2024 semester.

Educator accomplishments

Vermont State University at Randolph philosophy professor Ran Lahav has earned a Fulbright scholarship to spend three weeks at West University of Timisoara in Romania.

“During his time in Romania, Dr. Lahav will deliver a series of presentations, workshops, and conferences, focusing on his pioneering work in ‘Deep Philosophy,’” according to a news release from Vermont State University. “This innovative practice, which he founded and has been developing for nearly two decades, involves a profound and personal engagement with philosophical ideas and texts.”
