Town Meeting preview: Five candidates vying for seat on Unity Selectboard

Article of note: One article asks whether voters support changing South Slack Road from a Class V town-maintained road to a Class IV non-town maintained road.

Contested races: There are five candidates for one three-year term on the Selectboard: Kelly Simpson, Shaylor Duranleau, Adam Ferland Sr., Debra Leahy and Gary Ross. There are no contested school races.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed town budget is $1.6 million, which is up from last year’s budget of $1.4 million. Additional money articles include: $100,000 for the reconstruction of Mica Mine Road; $200,000 for the Roads & Bridges Maintenance Capital Reserve Fund; and $222,000 for the reconstruction of Stage Road. The proposed school budget is $3.7 million, which is up from $3.6 million proposed last year.

When, where and how to vote: Unity is scheduled to hold town elections on Tuesday, March 14 at Town Hall from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. The annual school meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 at 10 a.m. Unity Elementary School. Town Meeting is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. that day.
