NORTH HAVERHILL — A 26-year-old Vermont man, who was sought by authorities for more than a year after he fled from police on a high-speed vehicle chase through downtown Hanover, has been arrested and is now detained at Grafton County jail.

Dustin Sheltra, of Dane Hill Road, West Charleston, Vt., was indicted earlier in Grafton County and charged with reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, disobeying a police officer, unlawful conduct following a vehicle incident and reckless operation.

An arrest warrant was issued for Sheltra last year after he failed to appear for his arraignment at Grafton County Court.

Hanover police had attempted to flag down Sheltra as he entered New Hampshire from Vermont where his vehicle was being pursued by police on June 16, 2023, police said at the time. Instead of stopping, police said Sheltra recklessly drove his vehicle at a “high rate of speed” down Main Street, nearly colliding with other vehicles and jeopardizing people’s safety.

The same vehicle had been involved in a high-speed pursuit on the previous day with Vermont State Police, police said.

Sheltra also has multiple criminal cases in Vermont pending against him, including charges of burglary, possession of stolen property and possession of cocaine, according to court records.
