Vershire Town Meeting preview

Article of note: During the floor meeting, voters will be asked whether to raise the compensation for Selectboard members from $1,000 annually to $2,000. Voters also will be asked whether they want to put $20,000 of surplus money into a new propane boiler for the Town Center building and whether they want to use $10,000 of surplus to replace an oil furnace in the Sargent House with a new propane furnace.

Contested races: Amy Record and George Osgood are vying for a three-year term on the Selectboard.

Budgets and other spending articles: The proposed general fund budget is $374,000, up from $335,000 last year. The proposed highway budget is $531,000, up from $430,000 last year. The proposed fire and rescue budget is $69,000, up $2,000 from last year. During the floor portion of the meeting, separate articles will ask whether voters want to put $50,000 in the Capital Equipment Fund and $30,000 in the Capital Paving Fund.

When, where and how to vote: Town Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at the Town Center. The polls will be open for ballot voting on elections and the budget from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day.
