CLAREMONT — A 38-year-old woman who has been ordered to stay away from a 14-year-old former student with whom she is alleged to have engaged in an “inappropriate relationship” was released from county jail after posting bail.

Erin Mullen, who was fired from her teaching job at Claremont Middle School following her arrest was released from Sullivan County House of Corrections after posting $1,000 cash bail on Friday, Feb. 7, Shawn Coughlin, superintendent of Sullivan County House of Corrections in Unity, confirmed to the Valley News on Tuesday.

Mullen, of Springfield, Vt., was arrested by Claremont police on Wednesday, Feb. 5, after she had made contact with the juvenile in defiance of a protective order issued against her earlier in the day to stay away from the former student.

Following her arrest last week, Mullen was transported to Sullivan County jail and held in lieu of bail, Claremont police reported.

Mullen has pleaded not guilty charges of stalking and violation of a protective order, both misdemeanors, according to court documents.
