Thetford — The Thetford Academy boys soccer team snapped a six-game losing streak in style on Monday, exploding for five goals after halftime to defeat visiting Montpelier, 5-3.

Will Bosco scored two minutes after intermission and again four minutes later, twice volleying home crosses from the left wing. The first feed came from Tad Darrah and the second from William Bugg, who had three assists.

Jack Hastings, Ethan Steingas and Garrett Schafer also scored for the Panthers (2-6), Steingas striking on penalty kick. Thetford, which received five saves from Nacio Levey, trailed, 1-0, at halftime.

“It was very entertaining and unusual for us,” said Thetford co-coach Ray Thorburn, whose team hosts U-32 on Wednesday. “Before today, the most goals we had scored was two. We just told our guys to come flying out of the gate after halftime.”

Stevens 2, Conant 2

Claremont — Ian Fitzpatrick scored twice for the Cardinals (3-6-1), who also received an assist from Caleb Royce. Stevens led, 2-0, but “ran out of steam” with only two substitutes, said coach Jason Stone.

The Cardinals’ Cooper Moote made seven saves. Stevens hosts John Stark on Friday.

Windsor — The Cosmos’ Jacob Pugh was the lone scorer, besting a Yellowjackets defense led by Colby Darrell.

Windsor hosts Green Mountain on Thursday, hoping to avenge an overtime loss to the Chieftans from last week.

Bethlehem, n.h. — The Patriots scored in the 72nd minute, striking from the left wing and into the far side of the net. The Engineers (5-5) walked away empty-handed after having an apparent goal waved off five minutes before Profile’s tally.

“We didn’t have a lot of scoring chances, but if we could have capitalized and got an ugly goal, it would have been nice,” said Woodsville coach Matt Taylor, whose side received seven saves from Dalton Brown and hosts Lisbon today.

“Profile is one of the more talented teams we’ve seen from a possession standpoint,” Taylor added. “We played in the center and our defensive end of the field most of the game.”

Franklin 6, Mount Royal 0

Franklin, n.h. — The visiting Knights (2-9) suffered their eighth shutout and have been outscored by a combined 48-2.

The teams play again today, with the Golden Tornadoes (5-5) as visitor.

Woodstock 3, Fair Haven 2

Woodstock — Faye Stevens put home the rebound of a Novah Conway free kick with five minutes remaining to lift the Wasps to 4-3-1.

Gina Sorrentino scored off a Conway assist for Woodstock’s first goal. Hannah Reed notched the hosts’ second tally with Stevens and Sophie Leggett assisting. Fair Haven led, 1-0, at halftime. Woodstock hosts Mill River on Friday.

Bethlehem, n.h. — The Engineers (6-4-0) dropped a make-up match to the Patriots, unable to solve the host’s defense despite taking 18 shots.

“They played a good game,” Woodsville coach Ann Loud said. “Their goalie made some outstanding saves. We outshot them, but we couldn’t put it in the net.”

Woodsville, which owned an 18-8 edge in shots, picked up a five-save goalkeeping effort from McKenzie Dennis. The Engineers host Lisbon today.

East Burke, Vt. — The Wildcats fell to 2-4 and host Twinfield on Friday.

Hartford 4, Springfield 1

Springfield, Vt. — The Hurricanes (2-5-1) spread the scoring around to break a six-game winless streak.

Kennedy Mullen and Daisy Phelps both produced one-goal, one-assist efforts for Hartford, with Ryelee Potwin and Elsie Davis netting the other two goals. Greer McCarty set up Potwin’s score, while Emma Urso drew the assist on Davis’ strike.

With Emily Ricker and Chloe Jensen managing the defense, goaltenders Allie Levesque and Bella Lukowitz combined on seven saves for the victory. Hartford pays Rutland a visit on Wednesday.

Hanover 5, Pelham 0

Hanover — Diana Schwarz scored four goals and assisted on a Kaylei Cardona strike and the Marauders rolled to 11-0-1.

Maggie Logan, Miranda Galbraith and Katrina Randell had single assists, and Ella Edmonds made two saves. The hosts led, 3-0, at intermission and honored seniors Cardona, Diana and Lois Schwarz, Jasmine Lou, Aiden Stone and Ella Chapman during their final home game of the regular season.

Hanover visits Plymouth on Friday and concludes the regular season with a contest at Souhegan next week.

Lebanon 4, Hopkinton 2

Lebanon — The Raiders improved to 6-3-1 with four regular-season games remaining. Sydney Gonyea scored her seventh and eighth goals of the season and added an assist.

Jenna Spaulding had a goal and two assists, and Maddy Finnell had a goal and an assist. Lebanon led, 2-0, at halftime on goals by Gonyea and Finnell and received 14 saves from Hope Brown.

“Our defense did a good job clearing the ball out wide and we had great offensive passing today,” said Raiders coach Amanda Valliere, whose team visits Newport on Wednesday.

Newport 3, Mascenic 2

New Ipswich, n.h. — Liza Bates scored with two minutes remaining off passes from Selena Coronis and Maddie Miller and the Tigers (5-4) won their second consecutive game.

Newport’s Kelsey Wheeler made eight first-half saves to keep her team in a scoreless tie. Lacey McNeel scored with a Coronis assist for the hosts’ first goal, then converted a breakaway pass from Alyssa Burr to put the Tigers up, 2-1. Newport hosts Lebanon on Wednesday.

Volleyball

Mascoma 3, Franklin 1

West Canaan — Renee French was the Royals’ defensive star and Kira Emery and Laura Henry combined for 17 service points during the fourth game. The Royals prevailed, 25-23, 25-17, 11-25, 25-9.

Mascoma (5-5) hosts Stevens on Wednesday.

Sunapee — The visiting Vikings won 25-22, 26-24, 25-18. Tess Palin had eight kills, Carissa Pierce had seven kills and Mackenzie Wrightington had five kills.

The Vikings improved to 7-3 while Sunapee dropped to 2-7. The Lakers visit Fall Mountain on Wednesday.

Lebanon Clinches Tourney Spot

Litchfield, n.h. — The Raiders officially locked down an NHIAA Division III state team tournament slot with a pair of victories over Campbell and Conant at par-36 Hidden Creek Golf Club on Monday.

Kyle Pelletier scored a medal-winning 21 points for Lebanon (11-8). Joe Roberts posted a career-high 17 points, matching Lebanon teammate Graham Ten Haken’s tally. Zach Barden closed out the win with 12 points for the Raiders.

“These kids are starting to peak,” Lebanon coach Chris Pollard said. “States will be interesting once they start playing stroke play. I think they’re ready to go.”

Lebanon closes out its regular season today at Canterbury Woods Country Club against Belmont and Laconia. The state team finals are set for Oct. 11 at Laconia Country Club.

Green’s Ohno Goes Low

Akron, Ohio — Sophomore Sam Ohno shot the lowest round relative to par by a Dartmouth golfers in 15 years with an 8-under-par 64 on Monday as the Big Green tied for 10 at the University of Akron’s Firestone Invitational.

Ohno’s round was 15 strokes better than Sunday’s opener, and it left him tied for 21st at 1-under 143 for the 36-hole tourney. John Lazor shot 71-69-140 to lead Dartmouth, sharing fifth place.

Winthrop’s Ryan Tattan won the tourney at 7-under 137. Ohio (564) took team honors by two strokes over UConn (566). Dartmouth shot 580 as a team.

Hanover — Quarterback Derek Kyler and placekicker Connor Davis made it four Ivy League weekly awards in three weeks for the Dartmouth football program on Monday.

Kyler completed 18 of 21 passes for 221 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday’s 37-14 Dartmouth win over Penn to earn the league’s co-offensive player of the week award. Kyler, who shared the honor with Princeton QB John Lovett, leads all FCS quarterbacks having completed 75.3 percent of his passes through three weeks.

Davis landed the league’s rookie of the week award, booting four point-after kicks along with a 44-yard field goal in the Penn victory. Four of Davis’ seven kickoffs on Saturday resulted in touchbacks.

Junior defensive back Isiah Swann owns the Big Green’s other weekly honors, back-to-back defensive player of the week awards to open the season. Dartmouth visits Yale on Friday night.
