Local roundup: Thetford boys hoops edges Windsor
WINDSOR — Despite senior Maison Fortin's 36 points, the Windsor High boys basketball team came up short against Thetford as the Panthers built an 11-point lead in the third quarter and went on to win, 56-52.
Leading 29-28 at halftime, Thetford locked down the Windsor offense in the third quarter, holding the Yellowjackets to three points to go up 42-31.
Windsor made a run in the fourth, outscoring Thetford 21-14 with Fortin scoring 12 and Rodger Peterman knocking down three 3-pointers.
The Yellowjackets (3-3) are at Stevens on Friday while the Panthers (4-1) host Hazen next Wednesday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Christian Hathorn scored 14 points including four 3-pointers, Brody Tyburski had 11 and Brady Olmstead 10 for the Hurricanes, who improved to 5-1.
Hartford was up 31-20 at the break increased its lead in the second half. Declan McCullough had 12 for the Wasps.
The Canes travel to St. Patrick Academy in Rhode Island on Saturday while Woodstock (1-3) is at Springfield on Friday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Nolan Morlock scored twice and seven other players each scored once to help the Hurricanes improve to 4-2.

ESSEX, Vt. — The Hornets scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining in the third period to defeat the Wasps.
Essex scored the game’s first goal early in the second, but Woodstock evened things later that period when Gracelyn Laperle set up Laura Audsley. The Hornets, though, would throw the final punch.
Woodstock had the edge in shots on goal, 26-20. Meriden Bremel made 18 saves for the Wasps, who fell to 4-2 and travel to Harwood on Saturday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first on goals by Flynn Moreno and Ruby Harrington, but the Crimson Tide responded both times to tie it, then erupted for five unanswered goals in the second period to put the game away.
Emma Bazin, Sophie Trombley and Amelia Healey had assists for Hartford.
“We felt pretty good about our play in the first period, but Spaulding dominated the second,” Hartford coach Kylie Young said. “We have a long way to go to compete with a team like Spaulding but we are on track for our season and future seasons if we continue these tough matchups.”
The Canes (3-4) are at Stowe on Saturday.
BOW, N.H. — Sophomore Ethan Louis and senior Asa Michetti won their matches by pins for the Royals.
Mascoma travels to Spaulding on Saturday with a meet that includes Plymouth and Alvirne.
