Local roundup: Hanover boys hockey downs Salem on the road
SALEM, N.H. — The Hanover High boys hockey team got two goals and two assists each from Ryder Wilson and Jack Wilkinson and scored three times in the third period for a solid 5-2 road win against Salem, the third-ranked team in NHIAA Division I.
“The Orange Line was on fire,” said Hanover coach Dick Dodds, naming Wilkinson, Wilson, and Trevor Lichtenstein, who added a goal and two assists.
Power play goals by Wilkinson and Lichtenstein midway through the third broke a 2-2 tie.
Jack Gardner had two assists, and Henry Cotter and Andrew Rudd added one each with Jo Jo Drent making 19 saves against the Blue Devils (6-3).
“Big third period propelled us to a second consecutive huge win,” said Dodds. “We got stronger as the game progressed. Shook off a lethargic first period (down 1-0) to come back strong in the third, potting three goals to break open 2-2 game. Boys found a way to win."
Hanover (3-4) is at Nashua South-Pelham on Saturday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes broke open a 1-0 game after the first period with six second-period goals to improve to 7-2.
Ezra Mock scored three times with an assist and James McReynolds had two goals and one assist. Blaine Gour had a goal and an assist and Joseph Barwood had the other goal.

LACONIA, N.H. — The top-ranked Bulldogs (8-0) carved up the visitors and freshman goaltender Evan George, leading 4-1 after a period at Merrill Fay Arena. The Raiders skated without their regular first- and second-line centers, out because of illness and school suspension, for the second consecutive game.
Nate Dube scored the Raiders’ goal, knocking in the rebound of a Gabe Ouellette shot off the rush during the first period. Easton Wykes also earned an assist on the play. LSMR (0-8) hosts Kingswood on Saturday.
WEST LEBANON — A pair of goals a minute and half apart early in the second period and tough defense that held Bedford to five shots the last two periods propelled LSK to the victory.
Phoebe Ballard, Greta Barber and Olivia Pollard had a goal each and Andy Lindquist made 12 saves.
"We got better and better as the game went on," Raiders coach Mike Sheehan said. "We did a great job limiting Bedford's chances while continuing to create our own."
Lebanon (3-4) travels to ConVal-Conant on Saturday.
STOWE, Vt. — Isabel Konijnenberg scored a hat trick and had two assists as the Wasps overpowered the 1-6 Raiders with a pair of goals in periods one and two and four in the final stanza.
Gracelyn Laperle added two goals and Lily Gubbins, Fiona Piconi and Kassidy Haley had one each, with Haley contributing an assist. Hannah Gubbins had two assists and Meridien Bremel made 15 saves.
Woodstock (8-2) is home against Missisquoi Valley on Wednesday.
WEST LEBANON — Maeve Lee had a hat trick and an assist as the Bears responded to a 2-1 deficit after the first period with five unanswered goals.
Faith Lindsay and Kali McDonnell had a goal and assist each and Rachel Rockmore and Julia Howe tallied once. Norah Bradley had an assist and Eleanor Edson made 15 saves.
Lee opened the scoring, and after the visitors went ahead in the first, Lee's power play goal tied it and Lindsay then put Hanover up for good with Rockmore making it 4-2 after two periods.
"We played well against a tough team and it was a good bounce back game after losing earlier in the week to Bishop Guertin," Hanover coach John Dodds said
The Bears (8-2, overall, 5-2 league) are home to Beekmantown Central (N.Y) next Saturday.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes moved above .500 at 5-4 and will host rival Woodstock on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s VPA Division II title game.
CHESTER, Vt. — Brayden Russ scored 24 as the Wildcats improved to 5-3. Zander Clark had 11 and Tattin Griffin 10 for the visitors.
White River Valley plays at Mill River on Tuesday.
PROCTOR, Vt. — The Eagles got another strong outing from Joel Roberts, who scored 25, to go with Carson Meloon's double-double of 19 points and 19 rebounds.
Abel Goodwin had 13 points and Roman Goeppner nine points and 15 boards for MVCS.
"We had a strong first half and built an early lead," Eagles coach Erva Barnes said. "I felt as though we relaxed too much in the second half on defense and we allowed Proctor to score 23 points in the final frame. Solid win overall but we need to tighten up even when playing with a lead."
MVCS (8-2) host West Rutland on Tuesday.
RANDOLPH, Vt. — Freshman Charlotte Jasmin continued her impressive season, scoring 26 as the Hurricanes turned a close game into a rout in the second half.
Hartford went into the break up by one, 28-27, then held Randolph to six, third quarter points and 17 for the half while scoring 44. Maddi Willey had 15 and Izzy Sirois nine for Hartford.
Hartford (4-4) welcomes Windsor on Monday.
ORFORD — The Raptors picked up their first win of the year against the 0-4 Wildcats in a low-scoring affair.
Ryleigh Butler scored 10 for Rivendell, which held Twin Valley scoreless in quarter one and to one point in the fourth quarter.
Rivendell (1-8) is at Leland & Gray Tuesday.
LAMOILLE, Vt. — The Panthers got double-digit scoring from four players, led by Addie Cadwell and Kelsey Bogie with 14 each, Charlize Brown with 13 and Whitney Lewis 10. Madi Mousely chipped in seven.
Thetford (7-2) has won six straight and is home against U-32 on Tuesday.
LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Though behind much of the game, the Olympians kept it close through three quarters and were down 30-25 before Lyndon dominated the final quarter, 19-7.
Maggi Ellsworth led Oxbow with 13 and Emerson Fuller added 11.
The O’s (5-4) travel to Montpelier on Tuesday.
HANOVER — At the Dartmouth Relays at Leverone Field House on Friday and Saturday, Hanover's Ian Solberg won the high jump, Tanner Ames of Lebanon the weight throw and Isabell Hastings of Lebanon the high jump and was fourth in the two-mile run. Ames was also fourth in the shot put.
In the 4-by-400 meter relay, the Hanover team of Aidan Powel, Aidan Bradley, Joaquin Martin and Lucian Gleiser finished first and Gleiser was sixth in the one-mile run.
BURLINGTON — The Hartford boys placed first in VPA Division II and third overall among 27 teams at the Vermont Invitational.
First place finishes for the Hurricanes were Gabe Guillette in the 300M, Aydele Lowe in the long jump and the 4X400 relay team of Guillette, Conner Beland, Jack Fournier-Stephens and Bennett Moreno, who was second in the 600M, .32 seconds off the school record.
Moreno and Fournier-Stephens teamed up with Hugh Wendling and Gavin Farnsworth to finish second in the 4X800 relay. Lowe was fourth in the high jump and Hartford's Jordan Davis, fourth in the triple jump. Thetford Academy's top finishers included Ulysses Junker-Boyce, second in the long jump and third in the triple jump, Evan Rich, fifth in the triple jump, and Ben Mattern, fifth in the 3000M
For the girls, Thetford finished sixth out of 26 teams with Ava Hayden first in the 3000M, sixth in the 1,000M and teammate Jada Rich fourth in the high jump. White River Valley's Eleanor Prestridge was fifth in the shot put.

RANDOLPH, Vt. — Seeded second in the Baker match, Windsor defeated the third seed South Burlington, 2-1, and after dropping the first match (165-154) to top-seeded Craftsbury, won the next two (191-162, 144-136) to finish first.
Windsor top performers were Isabella Foster (158, 172), Alyssa St. Louis (168, 164) and Avery Bean (167, 122).
Windsor has a home meet at Maple Lanes in Claremont next Saturday against Hartford, Randolph and Brattleboro.
TILTON, N.H. — The Royals placed second in a 15-team tournament with Connor Hobbs (170 lbs) and Ethan Lewis (182) winning their weight classes. In second were Asa Michetti (152) and Damian Nestle (220) with Nolan Rombow (160) and Ben Poitras (195) placing third. Angu Shampney was fourth (160) and Hunter Zarr fifth (120).
For Lebanon, Taylor Davis (120) was 1-2 for the day, defeating Logan Sampson of White Mountains by pin in the third period.
Blake Ploss (126) defeated Jack Propri of Winnisquam by pin in the second period and Owen Gragg of Concord in the quarterfinals before losing to eventual champion of the tournament, Jayden Deal of Spaulding.
